Duke Energy breaks ground on natural gas plants, set to replace coal facility

PERSON COUNTY, N.C. — Duke Energy broke ground on Friday morning at two new natural gas plants in Person County.

The new power plants will replace the Roxboro Steam Station, the state’s largest coal-fired power plant.

The Roxboro facility is set to retire by the mid-2030s after both natural gas plants are up and running.
