CONOVER, N.C. — The Conover Fire Department tweeted Friday night that crews are responding to a “plane down.”

The department tweeted at 7:50 p.m. that it was responded to the area around I-40 eastbound near Fairgrove Church Road SE.
However, the search in a heavily wooded area at the ConWest Industrial Park came up empty.
A caller earlier had said they saw a small aircraft that looked like it went down in the area.

Emergency crews canceled the search.
