CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. — Cleveland County authorities say the courthouse was evacuated Wednesday afternoon after a bomb threat was called into the clerk’s office around 3 p.m.
Emergency crews secured the building, evacuated staff and inmates, and conducted a full sweep.
Nothing suspicious was found, and the courthouse was cleared, but a second threat call came in less than an hour later.
Investigators with the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office have identified persons of interest and are working to locate them.
Officials say that although the threats were false, every incident will be treated seriously, and a full investigation is underway.
The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
