CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police said a 14-year-old shot and killed an intruder at a home in southeast Mecklenburg County Tuesday night. The suspect’s family told Channel 9 about the negative influences that led up to the crime that killed him.

As Carlos Delcid's parents and sister left the courthouse Thursday surrounded by deputies, their silence spoke volumes.

Isai Delcid, 18, was shot to death after police said he and his older brother Carlos broke into a home on Rolling Fields Road.

With the images from that night still fresh in his mind, the Delcids' father apologized.

"I'm sorry for what happened at that house," he told the judge.

A friend choked back tears as she asked the judge to allow Carlos Delcid to get out of jail so he could see his brother one more time at his funeral.

"Maybe seeing his brother, he will realize what he's done," she said.

The judge refused to lower Delcid's $25,000 bond.

Marta Delcid said her younger brother, Isai, looked up to his big brother Carlos, who had a drug problem.

Isai, 18, was shot to death Tuesday night after police said he and his older brother broke into a home on Rolling Fields Road.

A 14-year-old boy, whose grandparents said was protecting their home, shot Isai as he tried to climb through their window. Carlos ran away.

Marta said her brothers' friends called to tell her that her younger brother was dead.

"That hurts so bad, because you left your brother dying there on the scene," Marta said.

She said 22-year-old Carlos had a criminal history, was addicted to pain killers and manipulated Isai into breaking into the home.

The young shooter's grandfather, George Wyant, showed Channel 9 the window he said Isai broke into.

Wyant said it was his gun the 14-year-old used to protect the home and his grandmother. Wyant also said Carlos had broken into his home twice before, looking for his wife's prescription pills.

Carlos worked on Wyant's air conditioner in the past.

The Delcid family wishes Carlos could have gotten help before this happened.

Carlos Delcid faces the possibility of prison time. Sources said prosecutors are not likely to charge him in connection with his brother's murder.

Prosecutors have not said if they will charge the 14-year-old in that case.
