Family helps Shelby mother who was furloughed, denied unemployment

SHELBY, N.C. — A local mother was furloughed and denied unemployment, but now she has enough food and money to make it through April thanks to a generous Channel 9 viewer.

Laura Moore lost one of her sons and their home during a fire in 2018. She was finally getting back on her feet when she was furloughed because of COVID-19.

She then found out she hadn’t paid enough into the system to qualify for unemployment.

“I think a lot of good things are coming out of this a lot of families are coming together a lot of communities are coming together and this is just an example just a small example,” said the family that helped her.
