FBI reveals more details about local man arrested for alleged ISIS support

DURHAM, N.C. — We have new information on the arrest of a North Carolina man who allegedly tried to join ISIS.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI said 29-year-old Alexander White tried to make financial transactions in support of ISIS camps.

Investigators said they found out about White from an overseas source who saw him posting online under the name “Sulaiman Al-Amriki,” ABC affiliate WTVD reports.

White was willing to fight U.S. military members, according to court records – and that’s when federal authorities stepped in.

“The Morocco General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance provided insight and assistance as we built our case, and we appreciate those international relationships as well,” said Michael Easley Jr., the US Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina. “If the threat is international, so too will be our investigative efforts.”

White was arrested by the FBI at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport before an apparent trip to Morocco to join the terrorist group.
