FBI arrests 2 people for 'Pink Lady Bandit' bank robberies, officials say

HAMLET, N.C. — Two people have been arrested in connection with four bank robberies across the East Coast including one in Hamlet, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said.

FBI officials arrested Circe Baez, 35, and Alexis Morales, 38, Sunday at the Charlotte Speedway Inn & Suites on West Sugar Creek Road in Charlotte.

The hotel's manager, Omar Imam said the couple checked into the Inn Saturday and remembers Morales the suspected getaway driver paying for their second-night stay.

Imam said he thought nothing of his guests until police showed up with warrants and that's when he pulled Morales' name up in the system.

The manager called up to their room for police and officers said they negotiated with the suspects for an hour until they finally surrendered.

Authorities said the “Pink Lady Bandit” robbed the BB&T on Raleigh Street in Hamlet, North Carolina Friday afternoon.

According to officials, they discovered additional evidence at the scene of the robbery in Hamlet that led them to believe there was a second suspect.

Officials said the suspects are believed to have robbed four banks along the East Coast, one in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Ayden, North Carolina, and Hamlet, North Carolina.

In each case, the suspect showed the teller a note that demanded money, the authorities said.

The FBI called the woman “Pink Lady Bandit” because in at least two of the robberies, she carried a distinctive pink handbag.

The suspects are each being held at the Pitt County Detention Center in Greenville on a $4 million bond.

This is an ongoing investigation.
