VIDEO: Fight involving dozens of teens in SCarowinds parking lot

Police are investing a fight that happened in the parking lot of SCarowinds on Saturday night.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said two 16-year-olds sustained scratches and bruises when they were beaten during the fight.

A York County Sheriff's patrol car also had some damage because of what happened.

The fight happened on the first weekend of SCarowinds, which ends on Halloween weekend.

Channel 9 obtained cellphone video of the fight where dozens of teens can be seen in the chaos.

The York County Sheriff's Office said the fight started in the parking lot after the park had closed and spilled into the Wendy's and Circle K parking lots nearby.

The managers at both businesses told Channel 9 they had to temporarily close their doors because they were scared.

Danny Artis, who works near Carowinds, said the stores closing was upsetting.

"These people are trying to make a living, and these people have to shut down because of stupidity," he said.

People were surprised a fight that big could happen in such a public place.

"It's a crowded area. People get heated and start to fight for no reason, but it shouldn't be because it's a fun place to be. It's an amusement park," said resident Jenelle Joe.

Channel 9 reached out to Carowinds, the amusement park that is transformed into SCarowinds for the Halloween season, about the fight. A representative said the incident is under investigation,

However, park officials said that security is higher in the fall than in the summer, because there are more people coming in and out of the park during shorter hours. They said security will remain high for the rest of the season.

Once their investigation into the incident is complete, the park operators will see if any changes need to be made to security.

However, some people said Carowinds can only do so much.

"Yeah, sure the parks have to have something to do with it, but at the end of the day, it's the parents," Artis said. "You have to keep an eye on your kids."

Both the injured teens were treated on the scene.

There have been no arrests.
