CHARLOTTE, N.C. — University of North Carolina at Charlotte hosted the first of several workshops to address what students told Channel 9 were racial remarks made by staff members.
Two students told school officials they overheard staff discussing the large number of black students in leadership roles on campus and the lack of involvement by white students.

The school said they take it seriously and want to make sure the campus is diverse.
“We have taken one step back to move two steps forward. We're going to use this as a learning process,” said Arthur Jackson, vice chancellor of student affairs at UNCC.
The school said they met with the staff involved, but won't discuss the outcome.
A teach-in is planned for Tuesday on the steps of the Student Union.
