CHARLOTTE — The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to five separate shootings over the span of a little more than 24 hours this weekend.
Five were killed in those incidents and several others were injured.
Police have made one arrest and have interviewed another suspect in a separate case.
Andrea Cole, 25, is in the Mecklenburg County Jail. She’s charged with first-degree murder in a shooting that took place on Altliff Court late Saturday night.
“My brother went outside to take the trash out and then when he came inside, we heard gunshots and there was like seven or eight,” said one neighbor. We aren’t identifying the neighbor, but Channel 9 got permission from her mother to speak to her. “When she heard the gunshots she told us, me and my siblings, to go upstairs and stay together and not get near the windows so nothing bad happens to us.”
The most violent killing took place in an industrial area off Ridge Creek Drive in the Steele Creek Division early Sunday morning. A total of four people got shot. Two were killed, and they were just 19-years-old and 16-years-old. Police haven’t made an arrest in this case.

There was also a murder on Simril Court in a townhome community, which until Saturday night, had always been peaceful.
“It’s a good neighborhood,” said neighbor AJ Harrison. “Man, it’s kind of quiet. We didn’t have any issues around here like that, so it’s pretty quiet.”
The first shooting that started the violent streak happened on High Meadow Lane where a 35-year-old man was killed.
That is a total of five deaths in just over 24 hours.
One of the weekend’s shootings happened on Westpark Drive near a hotel. MEDIC confirmed four people were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, but said only one person was shot. We’ve reached out to CMPD for more details.
So far police have not said what sparked the violence in any of these cases.
Michelle Williams, who lives off Altliff Court, says the violence changed her perception of the neighborhood.
“It’s very concerning,” Williams said. “It’s like for me, I called my daughter and told my mom, ‘Mom, I’m ready to leave from here ‘cause that’s real close to home.’”
Cole is being held under no bond. She is scheduled to have her first court appearance Monday.
