Fire that caused $25K damage to Gastonia apartment ruled arson

GASTONIA, N.C. — Firefighters are investigating what they're calling an arson after flames broke out at an apartment early Sunday morning in Gastonia.

Crews sent Channel 9 pictures of the damage at the apartment on Barkley Street in Gastonia.

When firefighters arrived shortly after 6:30 a.m. they saw smoke and flames coming from a second floor unit.

No one was home at the time and there were no injuries.

Crews were able to contain the fire to just the one unit but have not said how it started.

The fire caused $25,000 in damage.
