Former CMS teacher who was assaulted by students files suit against district

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The former Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools administrator seen in a video being attacked by students is now suing the school district.

She claims she was let go after she filed a workers’ compensation claim.

Her attorney is trying to file additional paperwork in support of that lawsuit.

In June, Annette Albright was assaulted by a group of students at Harding High School.

The plaintiff suffered a concussion and other injuries that required medical attention and was taken out of work. She initiated a workers’ compensation claim, according to court documents.

Classroom Teachers Association President Judy Kidd said the district didn't back up Albright.

"I think it's absurd that she has to go to the lengths she has to go to prove to the community that CMS did not stand behind their employee," Kidd said.

The district would not say anything about the legal action that was filed last week.

Spokesman Brian Hacker said CMS was unable to comment on pending or active lawsuits.

School Board attorney George Battle didn’t comment, either.
