ROCK HILL, S.C. — The former Rock Hill police officer acquitted for a controversial arrest is getting into politics.
Jonathan Moreno is running for a seat on the York County Council. He officially filed on Tuesday.
It was just two months ago when a jury found him not guilty of assault and battery.
The charges stemmed from the controversial arrest of two brothers in 2021. Moreno was accused of excessive force and was fired from the Rock Hill Police Department after that incident.
After he was cleared, Moreno told Channel 9 he would have made different choices that day. He also said he believes better police training may have prevented everything.
Moreno is running for the District 4 seat, which is currently held by Councilman Bump Roddey.
