As GOP Convention kicks off, NCDP targets Whatley with geofenced digital ad

Michael Whatley

DALLAS — As the midterm Republican Convention kicks off in Dallas, Texas, the North Carolina Democratic Party is targeting US Senate candidate Michael Whatley with a geofenced digital ad.

The ad, which is running on popular conservative news outlets and social media platforms, criticizes Whatley for his connection to Harvey West. West, a convicted sex offender, served in NCGOP leadership roles while Whatley was in charge of NCGOP. NCGOP has downplayed Whatley’s connections to West.

Whatley is scheduled to speak Wednesday night at the convention.

“At their convention this week, national Republicans will see what North Carolinians are hearing every day about Whatley – voters are disgusted that Michael Whatley appointed a convicted child sex offender and gave him power and access to minors,” Senior Communications Advisor for NCDP Mallory Payne said.

The ad is targeted to the convention center in Dallas. Platforms include Rumble, Truth Social and Breitbart.

Other North Carolina speakers at the convention include NC-01 Congressional candidate Laurie Buckhout and Congressman Richard Hudson.
