CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Just days after Channel 9 ran a special program dedicated to raising awareness about Charlotte’s mental health crisis, a group hosted a concert that continued that aim.
Organizer Fonda Bryant brought Living Colour to Amos' Southend for a performance Friday night.
Bryant is herself a mental health advocate and suicide survivor. She said the concert’s main goal was to drive home the message that there is help and hope for those battling mental health issues.
“Our city is suffering. Our city is hurting,” she said. “And we have to do better. Suicide is preventable, but people have to care, and people have to get educated.”
Money raised from Friday night’s concert will be split among several suicide prevention programs.
