Power restored to hundreds in northeast Charlotte after driver slams into pole

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — More than 800 were without power for hours in northeast Charlotte Friday morning after police said a driver crashed into a power pole overnight.

The wreck along Harris Houston Road near Bridgehampton Drive happened shortly after 2 a.m. and Channel 9 could see the badly damaged car resting at the base of the pole.

Duke Energy crews were on the scene for hours making repairs. Officials said roughly 850 customers were without power initially but that all power was restored by 11 a.m.

The driver was not seriously hurt and police are still investigating what led to the crash.
