Huntersville leaders unanimously approve ban on panhandling

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. — Penalties for panhandling are now stricter in Huntersville after town leaders unanimously approved an ordinance Monday night that outlaws the practice in the town limits.

The ordinance bans begging on public sidewalks, parks and within 20 feet of ATMs or outdoor dining areas.

A violation results in a misdemeanor charge and up to a $500 fine.

Channel 9 anchor Liz Foster is asking officials how the town plans to enforce the ordinance, and if it even can, and will have more on this story on Eyewitness News at 5 p.m.
