CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Channel 9 has been investigating a Charlotte nonprofit accused of stealing tuition money from international students for the past year. Now, those young women said the investigation helped them finally get action and their diplomas.
"This is an achievement. A lot of tears. I'm so proud of myself," said international student Gaelle Kikwika. "I'm actually proud of ourselves because we didn't give up."
The students said Patrice Ognodo and the Charlotte nonprofit, the Neighborhood Good Samaritan Center, originally promised to sponsor them, so they could pay in-state tuition at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
The students each gave Ognodo more than $10,000 but said he never paid their tuition.
