GASTONIA, N.C. — Detectives say a man is in custody and facing a murder charge after a shooting Tuesday at a Gastonia apartment complex.
Right before 3 p.m., the Gastonia Police Department responded to a call at the Greenview Meadows Apartments on Greenview Drive.
According to GPD, officers found a 34-year-old man who had been shot. He was taken to the hospital, but he died from his injuries.
The victim was identified as Terrill C. Gilmore.
Police said on Wednesday that a suspect was identified and found at an apartment complex on Hudson Road. He surrendered while holding his 3-year-old child, police said.
GPD identified the suspect as 45-year-old James Edward Lewis II. He is facing charges of first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Police said they’re still investigating what led up to the shooting, and detectives are still talking to witnesses.
No additional details have been made available.
