IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Joy Beall received a once-in-a-lifetime Mother’s Day surprise Friday.
Beall, who works at the Iredell County Courthouse, wasn’t expecting her son to walk through that door.
Andrew Beall, who is in the Coast Guard, stationed in Alaska, hasn’t been home in a year.

Joy Beall’s co-workers told her there was an angry customer at the front, but instead, it was her son waiting to surprise her with flowers.
“They thought I was going to pass out. I was just, I had no idea,” Joy Beall said. “I had no idea. He worked it out with everybody."
Andrew Beall took three weeks off, not only to spend Mother's Day with his mom, but to be with her on her birthday too, which is in two weeks.
He planned the surprise with the help of friends, family members and Joy's co-workers.
"Her face was priceless,” Andrew Beall said. “One of those moments where if you didn't see it, you really missed it because it was just almost a whirlwind of emotions. She was happy and shocked and didn't believe I was there."
