North Carolina State Highway Patrol

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — A 35-year-old Troutman man was killed in a crash involving a motorcycle and two other vehicles on Interstate 77 in Iredell County Thursday morning, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Troopers responded to the crash around 6:10 a.m. on the southbound toll lane of I-77 near Langtree Road.

Investigators said Jeffrey Tyler Robertson was riding a 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle when he apparently experienced a tire failure, lost control, and overturned.

The motorcycle separated from Robertson, traveled through the lane attenuators, and was struck by a tractor-trailer, according to troopers.

Robertson came to rest in the southbound toll lane and was then struck by a 2020 Chevrolet SUV. He died at the scene.

The incident was initially suspected to involve a hit-and-run driver. However, investigators reviewed toll lane footage, tractor-trailer dash camera video, and other evidence and found no indication that any additional vehicles were involved.

The investigation remains ongoing. However, no charges have been filed.

Anyone who witnessed the crash and has not yet spoken with investigators is asked to contact the Highway Patrol Communications Center at 828-466-5500.
