Iredell-Statesville Schools confirm positive COVID-19 case at middle school

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Iredell-Statesville Schools announced that a student or an employee at a middle school has tested positive for COVID-19.

The infected person goes to Third Creek Middle School in Statesville.

The district said that no visitors, including parents and students, were in close contact of the infected person during an open house on Aug. 13. Anyone that was in close contact with them has been notified to quarantine for 14 days, according to officials.

Iredell-Statesville Schools said the areas of the school the infected person was in have been cleaned and disinfected.

The district said that 7th grade students and teachers at Third Creek Middle School will start the school year with remote learning. They said 6th and 8th grade will continue with Plan B starting Monday.

Officials said 159 7th grade students will start the year with virtual learning and that the anticipated date for them to return to Plan B is Aug. 31.
