The veteran of 20 years at waiting tables was stunned when she got a $1,600 tip from the women.

“My mouth dropped,” Derrick said.

She left the two envelopes containing the cash on the tables for a few minutes.

“I was also working in the front, so I was going back and forth from the front to the back,” she said.

Her customers left $100 each. “The white one was here, and the red one was here,” Derrick said, referring to the envelopes.

She said she didn’t open them for hours. “I noticed the $100 bill, and the pile of money just kept coming,” Derrick said. There was $1,000 in one envelope, and $600 in the other.

“It was mind-blowing,” Derrick said. “I felt like it wasn’t supposed to be mine. It was left for the wrong Lisa."

Derrick couldn’t believe what was happening.

“I looked at my co-worker, like, ‘Is this real?’” she said.

Derrick said the cash is welcome just before Christmas, so she gave some money to two friends who were in need.

“That was a major, extreme blessing that I ever received and never even imaged receiving,” Derrick said. “I felt like I should give, as well.”

Another waitress received a large tip from a group of women Monday at the Cookhouse Restaurant in Cornelius.

The waitress at that restaurant got an $800 tip. Her husband is battling cancer and they are working to pay for his treatment.
