LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — A 4-year-old is dead and two other children were hurt in a crash north of Lincolnton on Friday, North Carolina Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said they responded to Startown Road near Ritchie Road after 1 p.m. for a two-vehicle crash.

In their preliminary investigation, troopers said a Mercedes was traveling north on Startown Road when it failed to stop and hit a Toyota truck that was waiting to turn.

An 4-year-old child in the truck died from his injuries at the scene, according to highway patrol. An 8-year-old and a 2-year-old were also hurt.

Troopers said the children were not in car seats.

The drivers of both vehicles were not hurt.

The driver of the Mercedes, Tracy Michelle Blanton, 40, of Lincolnton, was found to be impaired during the investigation, troopers said.

Blanton was arrested and charged with felony death by vehicle, driving while impaired, failure to reduce speed, possession of methamphetamine, as well as multiple vehicle violations, according to highway patrol.

She received a $65,000 bond and remains at the Lincoln County Detention Center.
