RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina lawmakers are trying to bring down the price of gas by introducing a cap on the gas tax.
Right now, North Carolina has one of the highest taxes on gas at 39 cents per gallon.
The new provision would put a 37.5-cent cap on the gas tax for one year.
“Everyone knows how expensive our gas is, how we’re not competitive with the other states and, as a result, we love revenue to other states as a result of our high cost of gas,” said Rep. Ric Killian.
The bill is being introduced to a state House subcommittee.
Killian said if it passes, it will hopefully be ready for the governor’s signature sometime in June.
