Local athletic store to hold fundraiser for Boston victims

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An athletic store geared toward running, biking and swimming will hold a fundraiser next week for victims of Monday's attack.

Try Sports stores in North and South Carolina will hold a 2.62-mile run/walk fundraiser Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Money donated will go to One Fund Boston, which will help victims of Monday's bombing attack.

Channel 9 spoke to the store manager at the Blakeney location, and he said he felt a personal connection because of how close the running community is in the Charlotte area.

"The Boston Marathon is kind of a marquee event. It's a goal for many runners that are out there. So to see something so tragic and unexpected happen to them, your heart goes out and you really want to see what you can do to show your fellow man that you're concerned and you're thinking about them," Robby Pierlott said.

A trainer from Charlotte, Nicole Gross, was injured in Monday's attack and had her fourth surgery Thursday.

Gross suffered multiple broken bones in her legs and soft tissue damage.
