Local business hosts fundraiser for Make-a-Wish Foundation

HARRISBURG, N.C. — The Make-a-Wish Foundation turns dreams into reality for children with serious health conditions.

On Sunday, a local business held a unique fundraiser in an effort to help local children.

Charyl Davis, with Pelican's Snoballs of Harrisburg, organized a back-to-school karaoke night to raise money for a local child’s Make-A-Wish fulfillment.

"It's important for us to be able to give back,” Davis said.

The average cost of a wish is $6,000.

"We're excited to be able to bring the families out, bring the families together for a great cause,” Davis said.

Their were balloons, dancing, snocones and karaoke for $2 a song.

Melanie Dailey's daughter received a wish donation after her 37th brain surgery, a trip to Paris.

"She dreams big,” Dailey said.

Dailey said it's important to raise awareness that these are not just terminal illness wishes, but also children who deal with lifelong health conditions.

"Wishes are expensive, whether it's a child that wants to go to Disney World or somebody who wants a greenhouse. I know that was a recent wish,” Dailey said.

For a sick child, it’s a simple goal.

"To have a good time and to just turn off doctors for a week and all the concerns and cares,” Dailey said.

Pelican Snoballs is giving back profits throughout September to support Make-a-Wish.
