MATTHEWS, N.C. — A Charlotte man was behind bars hours after police said he shot his ex-girlfriend in the parking lot of a shopping center in Matthews Sunday night.
Benjamin Bruce, 37, is facing two charges -- attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill.
Police said he shot the woman outside the Matthews Festival Shopping Center on Independence Boulevard just before 6 p.m. According to investigators, the victim identified the shooter as Bruce.
Officials haven’t released her name or said how she is doing.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers were able to track Bruce down and arrested him Sunday night. Authorities have not said what led up to the shooting.
