Man arrested after standoff, throwing knife at officers in Maiden

MAIDEN, N.C. — A two-hour standoff in Catawba County ended with a 29-year-old man in custody.

Christopher Goins was arrested just after 5 p.m. Sunday when he threw a knife at an officer in a home in Maiden, police said.

Police said Goin, who was the subject of an involuntary commitment order, barricaded himself in the home on Old Tavern Lane when officers, along with SWAT team, forced their way inside.

Police said Goins was holding a knife in one hand and threw it at officers, while holding a pick ax in his other hand.

Goins was then taken into custody.

Police said he had cuts to his arm and wrist. No officers were injured.
