Man from Mooresville dies while diving at Florida coast

KEY LARGO, Fla. — A man from North Carolina died Monday while exploring an underwater shipwreck off the coast of Florida.

Perry Lane Anderson, 65, was diving with a group and exploring the USCGC Duane near Key Largo when the incident happened, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in Florida.

Just after 9:30 a.m. Monday, other divers helped Anderson get back to a commercial dive boat and he was given CPR. Anderson was then taken to a hospital in Tavernier, but he was pronounced dead.

The sheriff’s office said Anderson is from Mooresville.

Investigators say foul play doesn’t appear to be a factor, but autopsy results are still pending.
