COLUMBIA, S.C. — Police say a man who posed as a rideshare driver to pick up women, including University of South Carolina students, and hold them against their will has been arrested in a Miami suburb.
The State reports university spokesman Jeff Stensland confirmed 28-year-old Farris Kaloti of Miami was arrested Thursday. Pinecrest police arrested Kaloti on outstanding warrants for assault and domestic violence, which the university says are unrelated to any incident involving students.
Columbia police said Kaloti is accused of assaulting a woman who got out of his car Nov. 26 and tried to help her friend get out.
A campus alert said Kaloti would offer women rides, and take them to places other than their intended destinations and refuse to let them out.
It's unclear if he has a lawyer.
