HICKORY — Another international manufacturer is heading to the Charlotte region for an expansion of its North American operations.
American Fuji Seal Inc., which is the U.S. arm of Japan-based packaging manufacturer Fuji Seal Group, is embarking on a $52 million project in Hickory. The project had incentives go before the state’s Economic Investment Committee on Tuesday. It was formally announced after approval of the incentives.
The project calls for the creation of 101 new jobs over the next five years at a minimum average wage of $48,744. American Fuji Seal will construct a new facility in Hickory, investing $27 million in real property construction and improvements. The remaining $25 million of investment will be in personal property. The project will locate in Hickory’s Trivium Corporate Center.
North Carolina faced competition for the project. American Fuji Seal owns land in Jeffersonville, Indiana, and Bardstown, Kentucky, where there is room for expansion. Bardstown is where the company’s North American headquarters is located. It was also looking at Dallas and other areas of northern Kentucky for the expansion.
