CHARLOTTE — A 22-year—old man was charged Tuesday a day after three people were shot in northeast Charlotte, police said.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene on Willow Haven Lane near the intersection of North Tryon Street and I-485 at about 2:30 p.m. Monday.
Police said three people had come out of an apartment when they were confronted by a man with a gun who opened fire. One of the victims was hit several times, including in the neck, officials said.
According to EMS, two of the victims were seriously hurt and the other suffered minor injuries. All three were taken to the hospital, and all are expected to be OK, police said.
Shortly following the shooting, a North Carolina State Highway Patrol trooper pulled over a vehicle for a traffic infraction near Interstate 85 and U.S. Highway 29.
Asante Sharif Turner, the driver, was identified as the suspect in the shooting.
Turner was taken into custody and charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill, shooting in the city limits, and injury to personal property.
Chopper 9 Skyzoom could see a fire engine and emergency crews on the scene on Monday. Police had put up crime scene tape to block off an area of the apartment complex while they investigated.
