CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are trying to determine what caused a man to kill a woman before taking his own life in east Charlotte Easter morning.
Investigators said 27-year-old Cameron Phillips shot and killed 29-year-old Alisa Mackey at her home on Perth Court around 10:30 a.m.

Police said Mackey was shot and paramedics took her to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but she was pronounced dead a short time later.
Officers later cornered Phillips inside an apartment they said he fled to about two miles away.
SWAT members found him dead inside after an hours-long stand-off and investigators said he shot himself.
Neighbors told Channel 9 that Mackey and Phillips shared children, who were inside the home when the shooting happened.
"Now the children are left to be raised by grandparents or other siblings, and really not old enough to know their parents," said neighbor Tiffany Patterson.
Officers have not said how many shots were fired, but one neighbor told Channel 9 a bullet went through the brick into her apartment and multiple walls before stopping.
"It's just sad and shaken that knowing all of this could unravel in this neighborhood," said Adreine Degraffenreid, another neighbor.
Police have not confirmed Phillips and Mackey's relationship, or a motive behind the shootings.
Early Monday morning, investigators told Channel 9 they had found a relative of Phillips that they had been searching for, Latrisha Blackwood, and that all the children had been accounted for.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
