CHARLOTTE — An initiative to raise awareness about suicide rates in soldiers was held Saturday on Tyvola Road in Charlotte.
Charlotte’s military community came together for a 10-mile walk in support of Stop Soldier Suicide.
The non-profit provides free mental health care to veterans and service members.
“During this month of suicide prevention awareness, it’s such an important topic for everybody,” organizer Matthew Ridenhour said, “You know, and most folks know somebody who’s committed suicide unfortunately or has somehow been affected by it.”
Stop Soldier Suicide says it has saved around 6-thousand service members and veterans and impacted 90-thousand military families.
