More students applying to App State after College GameDay appearance, chancellor says

BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State University has spent time in the national spotlight in 2022 and it appears that has piqued the interest of high school students around the country.

More students are applying to App State after the school’s September appearance on ESPN’s “College GameDay.”

College GameDay is the weekly flagship college football preview show for ESPN.

Channel 9′s partners at the Morganton News Herald heard from school chancellor Sheri Everts last week. She said ESPN’s coverage was the equivalent of more than $360 million in advertisement spending.

Everts also said the school has seen a 25% increase in applications since the GameDay appearance and expects more enrollment increases.

App State took down then nationally-ranked Texas A&M the week before appearing on ESPN.
