More suspensions handed down in UNCC baseball hazing case

University of North Carolina at Charlotte officials said more suspensions have been handed down in connection with an alleged hazing situation with the baseball team.

Chancellor Philip DuBois sent Channel 9 a statement saying the school’s investigation into allegations of misconduct resulted in the suspensions of two more students.

That brings the number of suspended players to five since the hazing allegations surfaced last month.

The athletics department halted baseball team activities during the investigation.

DuBois said activities will resume for the rest of the team.

This wasn’t UNC Charlotte’s first instance of hazing allegations.

In August a judge found four UNC Charlotte fraternity brothers not guilty for hazing a fellow pledge after the student landed in the hospital following an overnight camping trip.

University officials said the latest investigation is closed, but if it learns of any more allegations it will reopen the case.

The names of the suspended students and details of the hazing have not been released.
