CHARLOTTE — A multimillion-dollar power substation could be built close to the Charlotte Douglas International Airport soon.
According to the Charlotte Observer, it would help power one of North Carolina’s largest data centers off of Moores Chapel Road in southwest Charlotte. Duke Energy will own and build the data center.
Officials told the Observer that neighbors will not be charged for the substation.
The developer for the substation already owns and operates four data centers in Uptown.
Charlotte is three months into its 150-day pause on new data centers. The moratorium lasts until Nov. 5.
