NC father charged with child abuse after accidentally shooting 14-year-old son

GARNER, N.C. — Police said a North Carolina father has been arrested after he accidentally shot his 14-year-old son early Saturday morning.

James Johnson, 45, was charged with negligent child abuse causing serious bodily injury.

The shooting happened just before 12:30 a.m. at a home on Powell Drive in Garner.

Officials said Johnson’s 14-year-old son was transported to WakeMed where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries.

The cause of the shooting is unclear at this point.
