NC girl who sells lemonade for good cause gets sweet surprise on ‘GMA’

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A North Carolina girl got a big surprise on “Good Morning America” Tuesday morning.

Laila Ratliff started a lemonade business with the help of her parents in Greensboro. A typical lemonade stand wasn’t enough for her, so she started bottling “Laila’s Lemonade” using her grandmother’s recipe.

“She was like, ‘I want it online so it can reach thousands of people,’” said Laila’s mom and the business’s co-owner, Lakisha Ratliff. “So at that point, it was a game changer.”

They have 22 flavors and squeeze a thousand lemons a week.

They ship nationwide.

Laila is giving back to her community, too. She’s using her profits to donate to a local nursing home. Her family also makes bags to hand out to people who are homeless.

“The best part of the business for me is seeing how far I can push myself, seeing the joy on people’s faces, and what I can do for them,” Laila told “Good Morning America.”

On Tuesday, “Good Morning America” surprised Laila and her family with an industrial juicer so they don’t have to squeeze by hand.

They also gave her $10,000 to donate to the charity of her choice.
