NC martial arts studio says extended closure impacts children

CARTERET COUNTY, N.C. — People rely on fitness programs to stay healthy and active, but for some it’s like therapy, WCTI reported.

That’s why one martial arts studio said staying closed is hurting more than just its wallet.

The owners of this Carteret County studio said 40% of their students are on the autism spectrum.

The studio said martial arts help children focus, build confidence and grow their mental strength and stability.

Parents said the studio closure had impacted their children.

“I can tell it’s bothering her a lot. She’s not focused the last couple of weeks. And she just gets upset easily now,” said a parent. “It’s so fun, and I just want to get back into it.”

The owners said they are patiently waiting to reopen for the sake of the children who rely on them.
