CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A small site in uptown will be home to an extended-stay flag that’s present in Charlotte but, so far, not in the central business district.
A 213-room, 13-story Homewood Suites by Hilton will be developed at the corner of North College and East Eighth streets, on a 0.4-acre site that Raleigh developer Concord Hospitality Enterprises purchased for $3 million earlier this year. The rest of the block will be developed by the multifamily arm of Lennar Corp., which is planning a 549-unit apartment project with street-level retail.
The Homewood Suites is still some time out from groundbreaking, as the developer has only recently started the engineering and design phase, said Carl Hren, senior vice president of development at Concord Hospitality.
“It seems like there’s a need for an extended-stay product” in uptown, Hren said, adding the hotel will be a more urban prototype than a traditional Homewood Suites because of the site’s size and its downtown location.
