New Greek restaurant in South End carries on siblings’ family legacy

CHARLOTTE — The restaurant industry is in Amelia and Peyton Limberakis’ blood. Many of the siblings’ earliest memories are of time spent at their family’s restaurant, The Mad Greek — a Charlotte fixture for 30 years and counting.

“We grew up in the restaurant industry,” says Amelia Limberakis.

Now, they’re looking to put a modern and fresh spin on Greek cuisine with their own venture. Hellenic Greek Kitchen is set to open in South End on Monday. It’s at 1436 South Blvd. — formerly home to Crispy Crèpe.

“The market is not oversaturated with good Greek food in Charlotte,” she says. “I think it’s just too close to our blood. We wanted to take our ideas and continue with them.”
