New video shows Ohio trooper’s encounter with Gaston quadruple shooting suspects

Body camera footage obtained by Channel 9 captures the moment an Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper reached two suspects wanted in a fatal Gaston County quadruple shooting, moments before gunshots were heard and both suspects were found dead inside their vehicle. The two had taken their own lives.

The video follows a multi-state search for 29-year-old Cory Armstrong and 26-year-old his girlfriend, Camryn Moore, after a Sept. 10 shooting at a home on Forbes Road in Gaston County. Four people were shot; two died at the location and two others were hospitalized in critical condition.

The Gaston County Police Department identified the two people killed in the Forbes Road shooting as 50-year-old Victoria Heather Moore and 38-year-old Josiah Bumgardner. Police said Victoria Heather Moore was the mother of suspect Camryn Moore and Bumgardner was her uncle.

The U.S. Marshals Service collaborated with local law enforcement to track Armstrong and Camryn Moore across several state lines. State troopers eventually located their vehicle near Athens, Ohio, on Sept. 11, initiating a traffic stop that escalated into a pursuit across multiple counties.

The pursuit ended when the vehicle pulled onto the highway shoulder in an attempt to avoid spike strips. According to law enforcement, troopers heard two gunshots shortly after the collision.

In the body camera video, the trooper approaches the stopped vehicle along the highway and orders the occupants to put their hands outside the windows before the gunshots could be heard.

Troopers said it appears one suspect shot the other before taking their own life.

Investigators have not released a motive for the Gaston County shooting. There is no word on how the two survivors are doing.
