Novant monitors how well its employees sanitize their hands

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — At Novant Health, doctors and nurses are required to sanitize their hands before entering and after exiting patient rooms. Channel 9 learned the health system even tracks how well the employees follow the rule.

President and COO of Novant Health Matthews Medical Center Jason Bernd says in 2018, the hospital became the first facility to install a hand washing tracking system called Swipe Sense. He said the tool helps them identify weak areas in the hospital and prevent infections.

It’s now being rolled out to nine other facilities across the state.
