Obama Administration's net neutrality rule to end Monday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Starting today, the net neutrality rule that helped get consistent Internet service is over.

Net neutrality meant that Internet providers had to teat everyone online equally. This means no speeding up, slowing down, or blocking specific sites or online services.

This rule was initially passed under the Obama Administration, but the Trump Administration scrapped it in December.

One thing to look out for with the end of net neutrality. If you hit your “data cap,” Internet service providers could limit your future data use or control your bandwidth. They also could charge you more for your data use.

An example of the potential impact is if you are reading an article online or on your phone, half of the content could be blocked and the Internet service provider could charge you to read the rest of the article.
