Officials: 7 injured when pickup truck hits tree

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Seven people are being treated after a wreck involving a pickup truck, according to medic officials.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said people were sitting in the bed of the truck when it struck a tree on Thompson Road around 5:56 p.m. Thursday.

Eight people were in the truck, according to police. Four were in the cab and four were in the bed.

Reckless driving charges are pending against the driver, according to police.

Medic officials said six people were taken to a hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries and one was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
