Woman killed in 2-car crash after driver runs stop sign in York County, troopers say

YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A 47-year-old woman was killed on her birthday Wednesday afternoon in a two-car crash, the coroner confirmed.

Jennifer Timmons, of Smyrna, South Carolina, was driving a Nissan Altima when she was struck by a Nissan Versa, driven by Amy Staff, of Charlotte, that ran through a stop sign, according to the South Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The accident happened around 2:30 p.m. on Old Limestone Road at Meadow Road, three miles north of the city of York.

Troopers said a Charlotte woman was driving south on Meadow Road in a Nissan Versa when she drove through a stop sign and struck a person driving a Nissan Altima.

Timmons died at the scene. There were no passengers in the car.

Staff was charged with disregarding a stop sign and is not currently facing other charges.

Nearby residents said there have been wrecks at the dangerous intersection before.
