DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson restaurant Hot Mess has temporarily shuttered — after just two weeks in business — to focus on improving its execution.
Closing, while extreme, is the right choice to address the operational shortcomings, Robert Maynard told the Charlotte Business Journal on Friday. He’s CEO of Won Life Holdings and co-founder and CEO of Famous Toastery.
“I don’t believe it’s fair to paying customers to learn on their dime,” Maynard said. “This is on us.”
He invested roughly $500,000 to open that venture with chef Jennifer Brulé, a friend and restaurant veteran, on April 20. It occupies the former Davidson Ice House space at 416 S. Main St.
Maynard expects the restaurant will reopen within 45 days.
