PAGELAND, S.C. — Channel 9 learned the Pageland Town Council voted to transition the police department back into an independent agency.
Chesterfield County Sheriff Jay Brooks has been running the department since former Police Chief Larry Brown announced his retirement last month, following a South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigation.
Town leaders said Capt. Bobby Melton will serve as officer in charge until they find a permanent chief.
No details on the SLED investigation have been released.
